“What’s Wrong with the World”
TeacherS: Cassidy Brauner Jarrahi and Chris Joecken
Students were asked to list problems they saw in the world and make creative Public Service Announcements (PSA). Problems varied, from respecting bathroom walls, to concerns over four-wheelers, phones on refrigerators, and AI taking over the world. Ultimately, students decided to tackle the topics of drunk driving, pollution, bullying, and phone addiction. For their PSAs, students embarked on a creative journey starting with brainstorming sessions where they identified and researched their chosen issues. They worked together to develop scripts and storyboards, learning how to translate their ideas into a visual format.
As production began, each group took turns assuming various roles—such as director, cinematographer, editor, and actor—using professional equipment including cameras, audio recorders, and lighting. Students engaged in hands-on activities like setting up scenes, capturing footage, and recording sound. After filming, they spent time in the editing phase, where they learned to use Mac computers to assemble their footage, add sound effects, and fine-tune their final cuts (and made some incredible bloopers!).
