“Painting with Fabric”
Teachers: Ann Judy + Patty Stultz
Students created fabric pictures that could then be sewn onto upcycled and altered clothing. This process is known as applique. It was challenging to work with small scraps of fabric to create a larger piece of art. So, we also utilized a new material called Solvie, whose stickiness held all the small pieces together-- without pins! Once the creation was sewn, the Solvie was dissolved in hot water.
Each student tackled both machine and hand sewing. And as always, we are committed to reusing materials already produced to do our part to not contribute to the larger problem of the fast fashion waste stream. The resulting applique patches were very inventive and diverse. Each student was somewhat surprised at their results and were very proud to show them off at the style show.
