How to make the world a better place…

Students were asked to answer this question by making their own product or service in an advertisement. They went through the entire process and tested out the variety of jobs required to make a commercial come to life.  Students kicked off the summer learning types of persuasion and testing their knowledge for branding. This helped students see their own bias and relationships to marketing along with how different styles of products relate to different audiences. Each team worked together to write the entire script while considering the goal of their product/service. Costumes and props were built for the screen while actors practiced their lines. Through storyboarding, everyone learned about the power of shot types – how this can add intrigue to an advertisement and helps boost the dialogue and enhance the acting on screen. Smaller groups worked diligently to edit their videos and see how different styles of clips, sounds, and other of special effects allowed their product to shine. Of course, a product needs a company to back it up. Teams designed, tested, and voted on final logos and mottos to bring their advertisements to another level. All of this was done using the same equipment that professionals use in the industry! We were able to end camp with a screening of their hard work and many new ideas of how to make the world a better place for all of us.
