“Self Expression through Artistic Re-Creation”

Teachers: Ann Judy + Patty Stultz

Students explored what fast fashion means and how detrimental it is to the planet.  They learned to use creative sewing skills, both hand and machine, to renew old or outgrown clothing items.  This will help eliminate the use of raw materials and prevent useful items from ending up in a landfill.

Students up-cycled one or two garments using jeans or t-shirts and using other clothing for fabric and embellishment, making 1 or 2 entirely new garments or accessory items. They learned basic sewing skills using sewing machines and hand stitches, and they presented their custom items at a culminating fashion show for parents and friends.
